Modern Design That Lets Nature Take the Lead
Designed by architects Fritz Harris-Glade and Paul Bleck and built by Doug Cameron between 2016 and 2021, Hapuna Modern House is rooted in Hawai‘i’s modernist architectural tradition. The design draws inspiration from Vladimir Ossipoff, known for his approach of allowing nature and architecture to exist in balance. Additional references from Doris Duke’s Shangri-La and the Westin Hapuna Resort give the home a timeless character that blends modern structure with a sense of place.
Single-Level Living & Refined Flow
The 3,586 sq.ft. single-level floor plan promotes ease of movement and an intuitive sense of space. Each area is designed with proportion and functionality in mind, allowing daily living to feel easy and natural. A 2,200-square-foot covered lanai extends the home’s living area outdoors, providing a protected gathering space that captures panoramic views from Hualālai to the Kohala Mountains. The 72-foot solar-heated saline lap pool adds a resort-quality feature with built-in seating and a baja deck for relaxation.

Instead of competing with its surroundings, the home was designed to step back and highlight them. High ceilings, wide openings, and walls of glass bring in natural light, airflow, and expansive ocean and mountain views. The connection between indoor and outdoor space defines the experience, creating a calm, open environment that reflects Hawai‘i’s landscape.
